William was born about 1893 in Buckland Brewer Devon.1   William's father was Steer and his mother was Fanny E Withecombe.  His maternal grandfather was Robert WITHECOMBE and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Annie.  He was the oldest of the three children.
