John was born about 1898 in Buckland Brewer Devon.1   John's father was Steer and his mother was Fanny E Withecombe.  His maternal grandfather was Robert WITHECOMBE and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Annie.  He was the youngest of the three children.
