William was born in 1790 in Burstow, Surrey. William's father was William STEER and his mother was Catherine GRINAWAY.  His paternal grandparents were Edward STEER and Alicia OUTRAM. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, John, Thomas, Edward, Elizabeth and Jane.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 36 in July 1826 in Burstow, Surrey.  He was buried on July 21st, 1826 in St Bartholomew, Burstow, Surrey..1 2
