Thomas was born about 1877 in Ecclesfield Yorkshire.1   Thomas' father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Emma STEER. He had five brothers and a sister, named Samuel, Albert E, Joseph H, Joel, George F and Matilda.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
