Matilda was born about 1888 in Ecclesfield Yorkshire.1   Matilda's father was Thomas STEER and her mother was Emma STEER. She had six brothers named Samuel, Albert E, Thomas, Joseph H, Joel and George F.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
