Thomas was born about 1877 in Ecclesfield Yorkshire.1   Thomas' father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Emma STEER. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Albert Edwd, Joel, Geo Fredk, Cecil, Matilda, Eleanor and Gertrude.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
