Thomas was born about 1907 in Mytton Yorkshire.1   Thomas' father was Herbert STEER and his mother was Annie STEER. He had four brothers and a sister, named Edgar, Alfred, Jack, Henry Coulthard and Annie.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
