Alfred was born about 1904 in Clitheroe Lancs.1   Alfred's father was Herbert STEER and his mother was Annie STEER. He had four brothers and a sister, named Edgar, Jack, Thomas, Henry Coulthard and Annie.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
