Matilda was born about 1888 in Thorpe Hesley Yorks.1   Matilda's father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Emma STEER. He had two brothers and two sisters, named George Fredrick, Cecil, Eleanor and Gertrude.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
