James Alfred was born about 1890 in Icklesham, Sussex.1   James Alfred's father was James Alfred STEER and his mother was Elizabeth Jane STEER. He had a brother and four sisters, named Charles, Ruth, Blanche Julia, Muriel and Annie.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
