Gertrude was born about 1891 in Hersham.1   Gertrude's father was James Albert STEER and her mother was Mary Ann STEER. She had four brothers and a sister, named James Albert, Herbert, Edward Basil, Joseph Sidney and Edith.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
