George was born about 1892 in Neath, Glamorganshire.1   George's father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Anne STEER. He had two brothers and five sisters, named William, David, Selina, Lucy, Emma, Catherine and Gladys.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
