Emma was born about 1887 in Neath, Glamorganshire.1   Emma's father was Thomas STEER and her mother was Anne STEER. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, David, George, Selina, Lucy, Catherine and Gladys.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
