David was born about 1883 in Neath, Glamorganshire.1   David's father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Anne STEER. He had two brothers and five sisters, named William, George, Selina, Lucy, Emma, Catherine and Gladys.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
