George was born in 1780 in Tandridge, Surrey?.1  George's father was William STEER and his mother was Mary ATHERFOLD.  His paternal grandparents were John STEER and Elizabeth FRITH. He had five brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, James, John, Stephen, Mary, Clements, Anne and Betty (Elizabeth).  He was the youngest of the ten children.
