Ann was born in 1812 in Compton, Surrey.1   Ann's father was Richard STEER and her mother was Letitia HOAR. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Richard, William, James, Elizabeth, Mary Anne, Harriet and Jane.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
