Horace J was born about 1886 in Rochester, Kent.¹ Horace J's father was William T STEARS and his mother was Eliza A STEARS. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William E, James T, Sidney V, Edward E, Lottie E and Florrie M. He was the third youngest of the seven children.
