Elizabeth was born about 1847 in Thurgoland, Yorkshire.1   Elizabeth's father was Samuel STEAR and her mother was Hannah STEAR. She had five brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Sam, George Henry, Charles, Mary Ann and Rebecca.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
