Edward was born about 1874 in Bristol, Gloucestershire.1   Edward's father was Henry STEAR and his mother was Sarah J STEAR. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry G, Frederick W, Charlotte E and Edith.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
