Lydia's father was William Letts and her mother was Jane Ward.  Her paternal grandparents were Michael Letts and Lucy; her maternal grandparents were Robert Ward and Lydia Everett. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Walter, Frank, Ernest, Eleanor, L and Annie.  She was the second youngest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Walter and Eleanor.
