James Alex was born in 1894 in Wandiligong.1  James Alex's father was Andrew Ross FAULKNER and his mother was Marie Louise DAGON.  His paternal grandparents were William FAULKNER and Ellen Anne SWAN; his maternal grandparents are Jules DAGON and Margaret SCHOULLER. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Jules Andrew, Ross Percival, George Edward, Alice Louise, Margaret Ellen, Edith Grace and Jean Mavis.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named William Manton.  He died at the age of 84 in 1978 in Kew.
