Rachel was born in 1812 in The parish of St Sampson on the Isle of Guernsey, Channel Islands and her baptism took place in 1812 in The parish church of St. Sampson.1 2   Rachel's father was Thomas Ogier and her mother was Ester Corbet.  Her paternal grandparents were Jean Ogier and Catherine Ogier; her maternal grandparents were Charles Corbet and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Jean, James, Judith and Ester.  She was the youngest of the six children.
