Elizabeth was born in 1826 in Stratfield Saye.  Elizabeth's father was Joseph APPLETON and her mother was Charlotte WELCH.  Her paternal grandparents were William APPLETON and Lucy KEEP; her maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Miriam WELCH. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, John, Henry, William, Thomas, Charlotte and Mary.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
