  • Ellen is not a popular name in this era.  There are no baptism for Ellen, dau of John Dyson, so she may have been Mary's daughter before they maried.  There is only one Ellen baptised at Meltham:  Ellen Woodhead (18 Apr 1830), and her mother was a Mary (and father Joshua).  There are no other baptisms for this couple here, so it is quite likely this is Ellen.
    
    Although baptised Ellen Woodhead, was to be known as Ellen Dyson by her step-father on the 1841 and 1851 census.  However she used her birth name when married Joseph Raelinson on 1-Aug-1853.
