Albert was born in 1876 in Birkenhead.1   Albert's father was Richard Whitehead and his mother was Ann Bamford. He had four brothers and a sister, named Robert, Richard, Harold, Boland and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Elliott.
