Catherine was born in December 1853 in Sharples.1  Catherine's father was Henry Twist and her mother was Mary Kirkman.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Twist and Alice Lomax. She had a brother and four sisters, named John, Ellen, Sarah, Eve and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the six known children.
