Sarah was born in 1837 in Bolton and her baptism took place on April 30th, 1837 at Manchester Cathedral.1 2  Sarah's father was Daniel Travis and her mother was Alice Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Sarah Hope. She had a brother and a sister, named Frederick and Harriett.  She was the oldest of the three known children.
