Melvin was born in 1924 in Millard.¹

Birth Notes

Melvin's father was Oliver Wills Thornton and his mother was Artimesia (Artie) M Bennett. His maternal grandparents were Samuel Bennett and Martha Magdalene Fuhrmaster. He had a brother and two sisters, named Don, Barbara and Martha. He was the second oldest of the four known children. He died at the age of 73 in 1997.
