Samuel's father was David Stocks and his mother was Sarah Brook.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stocks and Eliza Wilkinson. He had four brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Richard, Benjamin, David and Jane.  He was the third youngest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Anne.  He died at the age of 69 in January 1816 in Huddersfield.  He was buried on January 9th, 1816 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).¹
