Samuel was born in 1824 in Almondbury and his christening took place there on April 18th, 1824.1  Samuel's father was Noah Stocks and his mother was Mary Frith.  His paternal grandparents were John Stocks and Sarah Gledhill . He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Henry, Ann, Sarah and Mary.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 59 in 1883.
