James was born in 1808 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on December 25th, 1808.1  James' father was Abraham Steele and his mother was Maria (Mary) Brereton. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Abraham and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
