John was born on February 12th, 1809 in Wrexham and his baptism took place there on July 3rd, 1809.1  John's father was James Rogers and his mother was Jane Tomlinson.  His maternal grandparents were Randle Tomlinson and Anne Tinsley. He had a brother and three sisters, named Samuel, Elizabeth, Harriett and Ann.  He was the youngest of the five children.
