John was born in 1838 in Lindley.1  John's father was William Robinson and his mother was Sarah Robinson.  His paternal grandparents were James Robinson and Sarah. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Ben, Martha, Hannah and Betty.  He was the oldest of the six children.
