Thomas' father was William Richardson and his mother was Elizabeth Caughlin. His paternal grandparents were Robert Buchan (Richardson) and Catherine Harrison. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, George, Robert, Harold and Robert. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 66 in January 1955 in Bolton.²
