George's father was William Richardson and his mother was Elizabeth Caughlin. His paternal grandparents were Robert Buchan (Richardson) and Catherine Harrison. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, Robert, Harold and Robert. He was the third oldest of the six children.
