Elizabeth was born on December 15th, 1826 in Worthenbury. Elizabeth's father was Charles Richards and her mother was Jane Lloyd. Her paternal grandparents were Charles Richards and Elizabeth Batterbury. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Charles, George, Richard, John, Henry, Frederick, Ann, Jane, Mary and Martha. She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
