Michael's father was Thomas Pighels and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Wright. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, John, Thomas, Joseph, Eunice and Rachel.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 82 in December 1834 in Haworth.  He was buried on December 30th, 1834 in Haworth.²
