Ellen was born in March 1862 in Manchester.¹

Birth Notes

Ellen's father was John Patterson and her mother was Ellen Mather. Her maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Harper. She had a brother and four sisters, named Samuel, Ann, Rosetta, Mary and Frances. She was the second youngest of the six children.
