Kathleen's father was Thomas O'Gara and her mother was Emma Purcell.  Her paternal grandparents were Patrick O'Gara and Eleanor Cartwright; her maternal grandparents were William Purcell and Emma Sixsmith. She had three brothers and a sister, named Gerald, Leo, Thomas and Eileen.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-sister named Irene.  She died at the age of 74 in 1990.
