Mary was born in January 1891 in Little Neston.1  Mary's father was William Millington and her mother was Jane Peers.  Her paternal grandparents were William Millington and Maria Williams. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Charles, Maria and Daisy.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
