George was born in 1856 in Preston.1  George's father was George Youd Millington and his mother was Margaret Philips.  His paternal grandparents were William Millington and Sarah Youd. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Alfred, Herbert, Harriet, Sarah and Margaret.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
