Edwin was born on July 23rd, 1833 in Atherton and his baptism took place on October 2nd, 1833 in Chowbent.1  Edwin's father was Thomas Melling and his mother was Betty Baxter. He had a sister named Margaret. He had an adopted sister named Ellen.  He died at the age of 32 in December 1865 in Bolton.2
