Thomas born about 1812, was the son of Thomas Melling, a Shoemaker.
5 March 1829, Thomas "Melding", Cordwainer married Betty Baxter at Deane St Mary.
In 1841, Thomas, a nail maker, and Betty (both 30) were at Atherton, Leigh with Margaret (14), Ellen (12) and Edwin (7). Also present were Thomas Melling (60 a shoe maker), his assumed father, and James Meling (18), his brother
In 1851, Thomas and Betty Melling (39 & 46) were at Cannon Street, Atherton with Thomas's brother James (28), son Edwin (18) and daughter Margaret Mather (24) and family.
