William was born on April 5th, 1879 in Philadelphia.¹ William's father was James A Mather and his mother was Mary McLaughlin. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Sarah Smith. He had four brothers and a sister, named James, Joseph, George, Harry and Grace. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 74 on July 6th, 1953 in Philadelphia.¹
