Thomas was born in 1861.  Thomas' father was Samuel Mather and his mother was Martha Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Jacks. He had two brothers and a sister, named Peter, Samuel and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 86 in 1947.
