Shirley was born on November 12th, 1923 in Melbourne.¹ Shirley's father was Alfred Arthur Mather and her mother was Grace Victoria Jenson. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Sarah Belle McCann. She had a brother and a sister, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Kelvin, Lorna and <child>. She died at the age of 77 in 2000.
