Alfred was born on July 8th, 1894 in Victoria (Au).1  Alfred's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Sarah Belle McCann.  His paternal grandparents were David Mather and Esther Heaton. He had three brothers and a sister, named David, Thomas, Raymond and Alice.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 75 in 1969 in Sydney.1
