Sarah's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Mary Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Martha Welch. She had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, John and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the four known children. She had three half-brothers named Henry, William and Peter.  She died as an infant at 6 months old in June 1857 in Prescot.¹
