Samuel was born in December 1858 in Little Bolton.1  Samuel's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Mary Heyes. He had two brothers and four sisters, named James, William, Sarah, Catherine, Jane and Alice.  Samuel and Catherine were twins.  He died in December 1858 in Bolton.2
