Richard was born on December 20th, 1737 in Newton le Willows and his baptism took place there on December 30th, 1737.1  Richard's father was Henry Mather and his mother was Martha Woods. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, John and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
